Japan Daily News is an automated podcast that delivers the latest news from Japan in concise, easy-to-digest English. Powered by artificial intelligence, the service aggregates stories from the NHK RSS feed, a primary Japanese news source. Using the OpenAI API, the system generates natural English summaries of these stories. These summaries are then converted into human-sounding speech via the ElevenLabs API text-to-speech engine. The resulting audio episodes provide listeners with direct updates from Japan without requiring knowledge of the Japanese language. The platform is built on a modern tech stack including Python for orchestration, a Jekyll static site for hosting, and Internet Archive for audio storage. This project was developed with community encouragement and aims to make Japanese current events accessible to an international audience through short, accurate audio news briefs.
