Walmart Smart Shopping Cart
Walmart-Smart-Shopping-Cart is an Internet of Things enabled self-checkout solution designed to eliminate long billing queues in retail environments like Walmart. Developed for HackFest 19 by Team HORIZON, the system integrates a Raspberry Pi computer, an onboard camera for barcode scanning, and weight and PIR sensors to track items and prevent theft in real time. The hardware features a unique dual-compartment design with a YES section for confirmed purchases and a NO section for doubtful items, enhancing user control during shopping. An accompanying Android application built with Flutter connects to a Firebase Realtime Database to sync data instantly between the cart and the user's device, allowing for seamless payment processing directly from the phone. The software stack includes Python libraries such as OpenCV, ZBar, and GPIOzero for hardware control and image processing.
