SiteWhere is an open source IoT Application Enablement Platform for ingesting, storing, processing, and integrating device data at massive scale. Built on a microservices architecture, it runs on Kubernetes with Istio and Kafka for efficient scaling in large IoT deployments. The platform provides multi-tenant infrastructure and services including device and asset management, data ingestion, big-data storage, and event processing. Each Java-based microservice is a self-contained Spring Boot process deployed as a Docker image, with a Kafka-buffered pipeline offering strong delivery guarantees and high throughput. Microservices can be scaled independently or excluded based on project requirements.
