The Tale is a browser-based multiplayer text role-playing sandbox with autonomous heroes, known as a Zero Player MMORPG, originally in Russian. Development and the live game have been stopped, with the final complete version available under the v0.4.4.3-last-full-version tag. Players do not directly control their heroes; instead, they influence them indirectly while the AI-driven characters act on their own. The game world evolves entirely based on player and hero actions, with all events presented as artistic narrative text whose style depends on various parameters. The project combines two intertwined efforts: the text-based RPG itself and a shared magic-punk fictional universe developed alongside it. Gameplay styles range from tamagotchi-like hero nurturing to political sandbox, where players cooperate to shape the world to their advantage.
